L&P Prevails in Another IPR for ClearOne

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) issued a final written decision today overwhelmingly in favor of ClearOne, Inc.  The decision came in IPR2019-00683, in which ClearOne challenged the validity of U.S. Patent No. 9,565,493, entitled “Array Microphone System and Method of Assembling the Same,” and issued to Shure.  The PTAB concluded that ClearOne has shown all but two of the 40 original claims in the ’493 Patent to be unpatentable.  Shure was forced to narrow eleven other claims significantly.  This contentious inter partes review (IPR) is part of a hard-fought legal battle between the two competitors, including multiple patent infringement cases in federal district courts and multiple review proceedings at the PTAB, where L&P has always represented ClearOne and prevailed.  L&P partner Matt Phillips, lead counsel on the case commented, “It is satisfying to secure another victory for our valued client, ClearOne.  This was a great team effort by Kevin Laurence, Derek Meeker, and myself.”  ClearOne’s CEO remarked, “This is another significant victory for ClearOne.”  For more information, see ClearOne’s new release regarding the case.
