U.S. News — L&P is the Only Small Firm to Make the National Tier 1 Ranking for Patent Law

Laurence & Phillips IP Law (L&P) is pleased to announce it has been recognized by U.S. News — Best Lawyers as one of the “Best Law Firms” for 2020.  L&P is one of 50 firms to earn a National Tier 1 ranking for the practice area of Patent Law.  Our four-attorney firm is honored to be the only small firm included, along with 49 large firms.  The 50 recognized firms include 43 Am. Law 100 and 200 firms, six IP boutiques with nearly 100 attorneys or more, and L&P.  The next smallest firm on the list has about 80 attorneys.  L&P partner Derek Meeker said, “That’s remarkable that we are the only firm in our category on this list, but it’s not surprising considering that in practically all of our cases we are opposite those other firms on the list, and we battle with them blow by blow, and our record speaks for itself.”

While L&P’s small size limits the number of cases it handles, the advantage that L&P offers over large firms is the close personal attention that its lawyers provide to their cases.  “We work our cases personally.  When a client hires us, they get us.  We don’t delegate their case to young associates,” says L&P co-founder Matt Phillips.  Phillips and L&P co-founder Kevin Laurence are former “Big Law” firm partners.  “We have the experience and expertise of the top lawyers at the big firms, but we are not constrained by the bureaucracy, traditions, and inertia of a big firm,” Laurence adds.
