Dan Higgs joins L&P
Laurence & Phillips IP Law (L&P) is pleased to announce that Dan Higgs has joined the firm as a partner. Dan brings more than two decades of experience as a patent practitioner focused on post-grant proceedings and patent prosecution.
Dan joins the firm after serving as Chief IP Counsel for MedVenture, a medical device and technology investment group. Before that, he worked with L&P’s founding partners, Kevin Laurence and Matt Phillips, at an Am Law 200 law firm. Matt Phillips shared that “Dan is one of the most talented patent attorneys I’ve worked with, and I am thrilled to have him back.” Kevin Laurence added that “we are delighted Dan joined us because he is amazing to work with and always delivers phenomenal results for clients.”
Dan’s legal career began at one of the nation’s largest and most respected intellectual property law firms, where he worked on all aspects of patent practice. He then spent a decade at an even larger general-practice law firm honing his skills in patent prosecution and, since their inception, past-grant proceedings.
As Chief IP Counsel of MedVenture, Dan analyzed potential investments for intellectual property risks and opportunities and conducted due diligence analyses for acquisitions. He also integrated into MedVenture’s investment companies, from startup to early-stage commercialized to well-established, to manage all facets of their intellectual property. In this role, Dan procured U.S. and international patent and trademark protection and built international patent portfolios for the companies, asserted patents against infringers, licensed intellectual property rights, defended against patent validity challenges, and conducted all intellectual property aspects of multiple technology purchases and sales and company acquisitions, mergers, and exits. Dan draws on his experience working closely with company boards, CEOs, and other decision makers to provide advice and services tailored to company objectives.
