Matthew Phillips Moderates Panel “Conversation With and About the PTAB Regarding AIA Trials”
L&P Partner Matthew Phillips moderated a panel discussion today about America Invents Act (AIA) trials at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) for the Oregon Patent Law Association (OPLA). The panelists were Administrative Patent Judges Frances Ippolito and Devon Zastrow Newman – both of whom live in Oregon – as well as Nika Aldrich, an IP litigator at the Schwabe firm in Portland, Oregon. Phillips, a former OPLA President, who has been counsel in over 75 AIA reviews, lived in Portland for over 15 years and still spends most summers there. This Oregon-based group discussed best practices for petitions, recent developments regarding discretionary denial, motions to amend, oral argument, and the judges’ process for making final written decisions.
