Matt Phillips Presents Case Studies on IPRs to Oregon State Bar's IP Section

Matt Phillips will recount some of his many experiences before the PTAB (Patent and Trademark Appeal Board) by presenting case studies of some of his completed inter prates reviews (IPRs).

Matt is a founding partner of Laurence & Phillips IP Law, a micro boutique that specializes in inter partes reviews (IPRs) and similar AIA (America Invents Act) trials. The lawyers at L&P have collectively appeared as counsel in about 100 AIA trials, and Matt himself has been counsel in almost 60 cases for the patent owner. As the patent owner’s principal counsel Matt has only lost one IPR so far. Matt and his partner Kevin Laurence are the creators of the Post-Grant Patent Practice course that they have taught for Patent Resources Group for the last ten years, and Matt has spoken about post-grant proceedings in seven countries. Before moving to Portland 16 years ago, Matt was an associate at large firms in Washington, DC; law clerk at the Federal Circuit; patent examiner at the PTO; and communication systems engineer for a large defense contractor. Matt now splits his time between Portland and Puerto Rico.
